Long Boy was an alternative rock band from West Auckland from the 29th of February 2016 until the 12th of February 2017. Primarily consisting of Cameron Mason McCurdy and Leon Molyneux.
History[]
Formation & Stan the New Turtle (2016)[]
Long Boy formed to play at the ZEAL Alt/Rap Shindig on the 10th of March 2016, when Title Pending couldn't play due to Ruben Mita's absence.[1] The members were the group who had wanted to start a jazz band at Green Bay High School. The band released their EP Stan the New Turtle on the same day, a collection of three songs written in the leadup to the gig by the full band and recorded by Mason McCurdy, Molyneux and Vinny Tunnell.[2]
The band played an impromptu set at the end of Title Pending's set at the Witches in Wellington gig on the 27th of August 2016 alongside Courtney Hate, Mermaidens, Hex and Soda Boyz.[3]
Col. Dijon Mustard & breakup (2017)[]
On the 20th of January 2017, the band released the Col. Dijon Mustard single, written and recorded by Mason McCurdy and Molyneux while Molyneux was living in Mason McCurdy's parents' house before their planned move to Wellington.[4] The duo performed together for the last time on the 11th of February 2017, the day before Molyneux moved out due to their plans to move being cancelled by Mason McCurdy.
