Daffodils are an indie pop band from Auckland Central. Consisting of Theo Spike Salmon (vocals, guitar), Jade Bryham (keys, backing vocals), Louis Graham (bass, backing vocals), and Isaac Keating (drums).

History[]

Formation & Smokefree Rockquest (2016-2017)[]

The band formed shortly before entering the 2016 Smokefree Rockquest competition, and became national finalists that year.[1]

On the 18th of August 2017, the band played at the Great South Pacific Tuning Fork with acts such as Hans. Theia, and Lexxa.[2] The band came second at the 2017 Smokefree Rockquest national finals, losing to te-reo metal band Alien Weaponry.[3] On the 1st of December 2017, the band played at the Jam Cellar alongside Title Pending, Teuila Brown, and Angels of Troy.[4] On the 16th of December 2017, the band played alongside The Bad Apples, Harry Parsons, My Anatomy, Ripefit and Munkhouse at "Are You Being Served?" a Lowtide. fundraiser.[5] On the 21st of December 2017, the band released their first single "Two Angels".[6]

Kartel Music & EP (2018-Present)[]

In 2018, the band signed to Kartel Music.[3]

On the 6th of July 2018, Daffodils played a free show for the opening week of new venue, Anthology K Road.[7] Less than a week later on the 15th the band opened for Machester gothic indie pop band Pale Waves' at their Auckland show at the Tuning Fork.[8]

On the 21st of September 2018, the band released their fourth single "A Leo Underwater"[9][10][11] with a sold-out show at the Tuning Fork, supported by Bene on the 27th of September.[3][12][13]

On the 9th of December 2018, the band played at Devonstock Music Festival alongside Gretel and Munkhouse.[14] The band played at St. Jerome's Laneway Festival on the 28th of January, whose lineup also included Clairo, Florence + the Machine, Bene, Rex Orange County, Courtney Barnett, Jorja Smith, imugi 이무기, Miss June, Parquet Courts and Yellow Days.[15][16] With Skegss, Daffodils also headlined the "Night Before Laneway" concert at Whammy Bar.[17]

The band's debut EP is planned for release sometime in 2019 via Kartel Music.[18]
